For this edition of the rocket50 Member Stories, we are pleased to highlight one of our rocket50 Advisors, Sabrina Sourjah.  

We were fortunate to connect with Sabrina and gain insights into his journey prior to joining Rocket50. Sabrina specializes in coaching socially conscious corporate professionals and leaders, career changers, corporate teams, immigrants, and anyone wanting to better the world.

How did you refine your career path after you turned 50 or beyond?

I left my corporate role in my late 30s to become a coach and writer because I always knew I wasn't completely fulfilled in the corporate world.

What are you most thankful for when it comes to your career path and journey?

I am most thankful that I had the courage not to settle and was able to work through deep fears I had about changing careers. 

How did you identify that you needed to change careers, what was the most helpful resource during this time?

Listening to myself and paying attention to my inner feelings was key. I wasn't happy for a while and at first, I ignored what I was feeling or was too scared to change. A part of me also didn't believe that I deserved to have a fulfilling career because everyone seemed to hate their jobs anyway. But my inner voices became louder the more I ignored them and I had to listen and acknowledge what I really wanted from life.

What was the greatest help to you during your career transition?

My coach and therapist, anchoring in my vision for what was possible for me if things were to work out, managing my inner critic voices and fears, having a career change plan, including a financial plan.

What advice would you give to someone in a career change?

Expect fear to come along, sit with it, offer it a cup of tea, listen to it, but make the change anyway because we all deserve exciting careers that we can't wait to get to every Monday morning :)

What advice would you give to someone in a career change?

My career change brought me closer to my most authentic self, and I'm so grateful for the life I have created as a result.
