In this rocket50 feature, we highlight member Steven Frampton. Following a transformative career shift post-50, where Steven navigated diverse compliance programs and assumed a crucial role at 52, he emphasizes the importance of swift, impactful transitions guided by internal realization. Beyond corporate success, Steven's recent ventures, such as founding the AGE Movement and authoring a book, signify an exciting chapter in his evolving journey.

How did you refine your career path after you turned 50 or beyond?

Around the time I turned 50, I had established more than a half dozen separate enterprise compliance programs at a Fortune 100 company such as Privacy, Sarbanes-Oxley, FDA, Export Control, Compliance Audit, Security, and others. Each assignment lasted 2-3 years and involved one compliance topic across all 25 businesses. At 52, I pursued and accepted a new role that included ALL compliance topics for one business.

How did you identify that you needed to change careers, what was the most helpful resource during this time?

For me, it was an inner voice that recognized the need for a change in position and responsibilities. The work environment might be lacking growth opportunities, waning leadership support, boredom creeping in, being in one spot too long, or a declining work team & politics. The most helpful resources included a self-assessment class, development & training opportunities, talking with friends, personal branding, and looking at internal and external job boards.

What was the greatest help to you during your career transition?

After receiving an offer for a great opportunity, I expressed some concern to my "report to" leader whether I would be successful in the new position. It was a promotion and came with significant challenges and complexity. Happily, my boss told me "Steven, you would have success at anything you do. I am confident of that." That was nice and removed any reservations.

Looking back, what are you most thankful for when it comes to your career path and journey?

A continuing string of significant compliance programs, twelve in all. Each time I was putting a compliance program into maintenance mode, the next assignment showed up.

What advice would you give to someone in a career change?

When you have a new position, it's important to go big. Master all details of the new job in 6 months or less. Make a big impact.

Is there anything else you would like to share about your journey?

While I sometimes miss the corporate grind, I am excited about my most recent new career. I founded AGE Movement and am writing a book, a completely different career and journey.
