How did you refine your career path after you turned 50 or beyond?
I was at a crossroads. My career had been in investment management but not only did my career prospects dim after the 2008 Financial Crisis but what I wanted to do also changed. It was a lot of introspection plus trial and error.
How did you identify that you needed to change careers, what was the most helpful resource during this time?
It was both internal desires and external constraints. Frankly, there were few resources available. I had to experiment.
What was the greatest help to you during your career transition?
Having a role model of a successful transformation helped. Also, getting educated about personal growth helped a lot.
Looking back, what are you most thankful for when it comes to your career path and journey?
My role models and mentors. My mother for encouraging me.
What advice would you give to someone in a career change?
Stay flexible. Experiment. Give it some time and be 100% honest with yourself. First figure out your minimum requirements - comp, location, hours, and psychic income. Then network.
